Take your little ones on an adventure at Wadjemup / Rottnest Island during the spring school holidays.

Every school holidays, the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association offers a program of free activities and tours that will get kids out learning more about the island's natural environment, unique wildlife, and significant history.

All tours and activities in the program are free, suitable for all ages, and last for approximately one hour unless otherwise stated.

Spring is the perfect season to visit to experience a kaleidoscope of colours appear across Wadjemup. Warmer weather brings bursts of wildflowers, including the island's very own Wadjemup Daisy, plus quokka joey sightings and a renewed landscape to explore and appreciate as a family.

20 Questions Challenge

A detective trail challenge for the whole family. Follow the clues to find the answers. Winners go into the draw for a prize each Thursday. There’s a new challenge each week, and you can pick up your entry forms at the Guides’ Information Booth next to Island Gypsy. See the program for details.

Beach Discovery

This activity is for the budding marine biologists! Explore the beach and discover the secrets of the sea.

Behind the Scenes

Ever wondered what makes Wadjemup / Rottnest Island tick? This is your chance to find out! Join a guided bike tour, departing from the RVGA Information Booth and cycling approximately 4.5 km to The Basin, Longreach Bay, and Geordie Bay. Learn about the island’s inner workings, as well as its progress towards a sustainable future.

Note: the full course takes approximately 1.5 hours. Please bring your own bike and don’t forget your helmet.

Bickley Battery Walk

Bike, hike, bus or march down to Kingstown Barracks. Meet your guide at the Gun Barrel on the Parade Ground and explore the remnants of the WWII coastal defences.

Birds & Beasts of Rottnest

Take a walk on the wild side! Meet some of Wadjemup / Rottnest Island’s amazing birds, reptiles, and mammals in their natural habitats. Binoculars will be available for a closer look.

Mysteries & Legends

Stroll through the settlement at night, meet characters from the island’s rich history and hear their stories. Don’t forget your torch!

Night Skies

Join us for a look at the planets and stars and hear about the wonders of the beautiful Rottnest Island night sky. Don’t forget your torch!

Quokka Tales

Listen to ‘Okka the Quokka’ stories and do some colouring in for an educational and entertaining activity suitable for the young and young at heart.

Sand Sculptures by the Sea at Geordie Bay

Create your amazing sand sculpture on the beach. Use only the sand and what nature provides on the beach to create your very own work of art. Look out for the banner on the beach at 10 am indicating where to get to work.

Vlamingh Lookout Sunset

Take a twilight stroll up to Vlamingh Lookout for an unforgettable view of the sun setting over the salt lakes. Along the way, hear stories about the island’s natural history, the first settlers, the Dutch explorers and more. Don’t forget your camera!

What’s Behind Geordie?

Take a walk over the hill and find out what’s behind Geordie Bay. Learn about the mighty wind generator and the biodiversity of the island’s salt lake ecosystem and return along the coastal track that winds its way back to Geordie Bay from the beautiful Little Parakeet Bay.

Note: the full course takes approximately 1.5 hours. Shorter course options are available.

The RVGA Family Quiz Night

Held at the Rottnest Island Golf Course upstairs in the clubhouse, the Family Quiz Night is a fun night out for the whole family, with great prizes up for grabs! Make up your own tables of eight or come and join a table at this popular family event.

Places are limited so bookings are essential. Purchase your tickets from the Guides’ Information Booth or email holidayguiding@rvga.asn.au to purchase tickets prior to your arrival. All proceeds from ticket sales go to the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association.
